On February 6, 2026, the Honorable Mary B. Mahler, issued a Probationary Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) in Stearns County District Court File No. ••-CR-••-•••• which prohibits Matthew Allin Salzmann, [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein, from having any direct or indirect contact with G. B., fully identified in police reports. There are two exceptions on the DANCO which allow defendant to have contact with the minor child at Holding Hope and contact with G. B. In a therapeutic setting. All other contact is prohibited.
On February 27, 2026, law enforcement was dispatched to a report of an assault that occurred in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota. P.M., fully identified in police reports, called in stating that she was on the phone with G. B. When she heard G. B. Yell at defendant telling him not to touch her before the phone disconnected. Law enforcement went to the hotel where G. B. And defendant were staying. They made contact with M. M., fully identified in police reports, who confirmed that defendant and G. B. Rented a room at the hotel.
M. M. Stated they have a dog and a baby with them. M. M. Reported G. B. Came down and told her she was going to leave because defendant was threatening her and would blow up her vehicle. G. B. Then went back to their room. Shortly after, defendant came and stated he got locked out of their room. Defendant then went back to the room. Law enforcement went to the room and attempted contact. No one responded. Officers entered the room to ensure no one was injured inside based on the reports. When they entered they noticed a window that was partially opened.
The screen was ripped and appeared someone left out of the window. G. B. And defendant's vehicle were no longer in the parking lot. Later, dispatch advised hotel staff called and stated they were back on scene. Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in the parking lot near the hotel. Officers made contact with defendant inside the vehicle. Child A was also located inside the vehicle. G. B. Was located at the hotel. G. B. Reported that although there was Cca DANCO in place the two had been staying with each other for awhile.
The two stayed at defendant's grandparents, then a friends place, and now the hotel. On February 27, G. B. Was trying to help by booking a hotel room. G. B. Thought she booked the right hotel but when they got there, they realized they did not have a room. Because she booked the wrong hotel, defendant got upset. After they checked into the hotel the two started to argue. They argued until defendant had to leave for work. When defendant left, G. B. Went to the front desk and told them she was going to leave due to defendant threatening her and was going to blow up her vehicle.
G. B. Went back to the room to pack. Defendant returned. G. B. Locked the door. Defendant was pounding on the door and yelling at her through the door. Defendant went and got another key from staff. Defendant told G. B. To open the door or they would call the police on her. Defendant promised not to hurt her. When G. B. Opened the door, defendant charged at her. Defendant threatened to kill G. B. Defendant placed G. B. In a headlock choking her. G. B. Stated she could not breathe. G. B. Reported all she could do was cry and think about if that was the end of her.
