Defendant’s backpack was removed from him as well that contained various items such as multiple pairs of gloves, an iPhone, an Apple watch and more cards. Police took a recorded statement from Victim and learned Victim works as Uber Eats delivery and was delivering food to an address at approximately 8:05 A.M., Victim was driving his blue Nissan Altima and parked his vehicle on the street and walked out to hand the food to the customer who was outside of his address. Victim left the car running with the doors open.
Victim saw another gray sedan drive by and then 4 27-CR-26-8598 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/7/2026 make a quick U turn to come back to his vehicle. Victim saw a black male wearing a white jacket and black ski mask getting into his vehicle. Victim ran back to his vehicle to stop the male from driving his vehicle. Victim was able to open the driver’s door and about to physically grab the steering wheel with the suspect. The suspect then punched the victim in the neck and drove the vehicle as part of the victim's body was almost inside the vehicle.
The victim said he fell down to the ground as the suspect continued driving. Victim [NAME REDACTED] injury to his neck because it was hurting and his middle finger. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was wearing a white jacket and black mask. In a post-Miranda statement, Defendant confirmed he was wearing the white jacket and a black ski mask. When informed he was going to be charged with robbery, Defendant started laughing and said he was familiar with the procedure of regular robbery, aggravated robbery and armed robbery.
He then said, "This is simple robbery apparently for the charge". Police did not tell Defendant this was simple robbery. Eventually, Defendant invoked his right to counsel.
