On or about 4/7/26, at around 2:39 P.M., officers responded to an apartment building on the 7600 block of Knox Ave S, Richfield, Hennepin County, MN. A known witness stated he had called Victim and heard a male yelling in the background for money. Victim responded, "I don't have any." The witness went to the apartment and could hear yelling coming from inside. Victim asked the witness to call 911, saying that her ex-boyfriend, Yusef Lawrence Cook Bey [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, was inside the apartment.
Officers arrived and could hear yelling outside the apartment, and then a scuffle and a loud bang. Victim opened the door and yelled that that Defendant had taken her phone. Officers observed the balcony blinds swinging and saw that Defendant had jumped from the second-floor balcony. Defendant was seen in the courtyard and then running towards the entrance of a store. Defendant was eventually detained, where he resisted arrest and continued to try to flee. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been in a relationship with Defendant for about nine years.
She had allowed him to stay over the night before because Defendant had told her he had nowhere to stay. That night, Defendant argued with Victim [NAME REDACTED] told him that they needed to see other people. Defendant punched Victim [NAME REDACTED], hitting her nose and head. Victim's nose began bleeding. The next day, Defendant told Victim she could not go to work. When Defendant learned Victim [NAME REDACTED], he became upset and placed both hands around her neck, strangling her. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was not able to breathe.
Victim also stated that her cross necklace was broken while this happened. Defendant then punched Victim's hand. Victim told him that he needed to leave and she had to go to work. Victim [NAME REDACTED] would call the police. Defendant took Victim's phone and blocked the door, preventing Victim [NAME REDACTED]. At some point, Defendant dropped the phone, which allowed Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant is currently in custody.
