On April 9, 2026 at approximately 4:02 P.M., Brooklyn Center police officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of 58th Avenue North in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin, Minnesota on report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, police encountered an identified female, Victim herein. She was visibly crying, had an open cut on her left hand, a cut on her lower lip, and she had red marks, scratches and bruising on her chest and neck area. Victim reported to police that her boyfriend, JOVAN ANTHONY EDWARDS [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, had been drinking and they got into an argument.
Victim tried to leave the apartment when Defendant accused her of not caring enough about the relationship, but Defendant blocked her from exiting and pushed her onto the bed. He took her vehicle keys and became more aggressive when she tried to retrieve them. He got on top of her, grabbed her neck, dug his nails into it, and squeezed. Victim [NAME REDACTED] could not breathe and felt as though she may black out. Victim reported that Defendant eventually rose, at which point she was able to reach into his pocket to retrieve her vehicle keys.
She then left the apartment, but Defendant followed her and attempted to prevent her from closing her vehicle door. She finally got the door closed and drove around the building. She called 911, and dispatch advised her not to go too far away from the scene, which prompted her to find another parking spot. Defendant approached her again, was able to open the driver’s side door and proceeded to strike her in the face with a closed fist. Defendant remains in custody.
