On January 26, 2026, at 10:47 A.M., Deputy Jeff Schultz of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft at the Runnings store in the City of Monticello, Wright County, Minnesota. Store employees had two males, identified as Charles Michael Willmott [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant Charles Willmott, and David Charles Willmott, Jr. [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant David Willmott, at the entrance of the store. Video footage showed Defendant David Willmott walk past the points of sale and anti-theft devices with concealed FlexBolt batteries valued at $399.00. Defendant David Willmott admitted taking the batteries and retrieved them from his vehicle.
The batteries had been removed from their packaging. A search of Defendant David Willmott yielded a stolen key chain, valued at $16.49, as well as side cutters and a brass screwdriver/punch, which are items commonly used to defeat anti-theft devices on merchandise. Video footage showed Defendant Charles Willmott walk past the points of sale and anti-theft devices with a concealed impact driver, valued at $219.00. The alarm was triggered. Defendant Charles Willmott re- entered the store and tried to hide the impact driver in a cart while employees were speaking with Defendant David Willmott.
A search of Defendant Charles Willmott yielded side cutters, noted to defeat anti-theft devices. During intake at the Wright County Jail in the city of Buffalo, Defendant David Willmott was found concealing small baggies with white residue and also concealing a small amount of suspected marijuana, both of which are pending testing.
