On February 18, 2025, officers stopped a vehicle at Blaisdell Avenue and Lake Street West, in the City of Minneapolis, County of Hennepin, State of Minnesota. Prior to the stop, officers observed the vehicle attempt to drive the wrong way down Blaisdell Avenue, a one-way street, before being blocked by oncoming vehicles. The vehicle then turned and began driving in the wrong direction down Lake Street West before being stopped by officers. Officers identified the driver as Gavin Kyle Uzzell [DOB REDACTED] and observed that Uzzell’s speech was slurred and he appeared lethargic.
Officers learned that the front passenger, K. M., was 15 years old. Uzzell told officers that he had a prescription for Suboxone. Officers conducted field sobriety tests, and Uzzell failed the walk and turn, one leg stand, and modified Romberg tests. Officers placed Uzzell under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Officers obtained a warrant for a sample of Uzzell’s blood, and BCA testing showed the presence of cocaine and benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Officers searched the vehicle and located a 3D printed firearm with an extended magazine underneath the driver’s seat and a suspected Xanax tablet in the door.
Officers located a lock box containing multiple unused baggies, a scale covered in a powdery substance, and a bag containing 19.17 grams of a powdery substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl. Officers also located approximately $1,971.00 in cash. Uzzell was adjudicated guilty in Lee County Florida in court file 24-CF-014687 in violation of a Third Degree Possession of Controlled Substance, a felony level offense for which Uzzell is ineligible to possess firearms in the State of Minnesota.
Uzzell also has a prior driving while intoxicated conviction from Collier County Florida in court file 1-2022-CT-002152 from November 6th, 2023. Uzzell is not in custody. The State respectfully requests that this complaint issue by warrant given the threat to public safety posed by the firearm and quantity of fentanyl in this case.
