On March 3, 2026, Victim A, adult female fully identified in police reports, spoke with an investigator from the St. Cloud Police Department. Victim A was informed her name came up regarding an investigation into Marquell Steven Goree, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein. Victim A indicated she was held hostage by the defendant in the Spring of 2025. During a later conversation Victim A believed it was more likely spring of 2024. Victim A indicated it was right after the winter where it did not snow very much and before messages located in the defendant's phone trying to convince Victim A to smoke methamphetamine dated April 5, 2025. Victim A stated the defendant was living by the liquor store near Pump N' Munch off University Ave.
The investigator knew the defendant previously lived at a residence that matched this description located on the 900 block of 8th Avenue South in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota. At the time of the offense the defendant asked Victim A to come over and hang out. Victim A stated she went to the defendant's house and after some time they got into an argument that prompted Victim A to try and leave. Victim A stated the defendant grabbed her phone, stood in front of the door, and told her she was not going anywhere.
Victim A stated the defendant was bigger than her and every time she tried to go for the door he would stand in front of it and push her backwards. Every time Victim A tried to grab her phone the defendant would grab her arms. At one point the defendant swung at Victim A but she stepped back and he did not make contact. Victim A stated she slept in the defendant's bed with him. Victim A stated she believed he did not sleep while she was there because every time she woke up he was still awake. Victim A stated if he had been sleeping she would have tried to sneak out.
Victim A stated the argument was about the defendant wanting to be more than friends and Victim A continually saying "no." After approximately five days, another individual, Witness A, fully identified in police reports, showed up at the defendant's house. The defendant gave Victim A her phone back and Victim A left the residence with Witness A. The defendant is currently in-custody on two separate files, 73-CR-26-1186 and 73-CR-26-1799. The State does not believe the defendant will respond to a summons and respectfully requests a warrant be issued for his arrest.
