On May 8, 2026, around 12:54 A.M., Carver County Deputies were dispatched to Kwik Trip in Waconia Carver County on the report of a crash. Dispatch advised that a vehicle had been driven into the building and was leaking. Deputies arrived at Kwik Trip a short time later and observed smoke in the air. In the parking lot, there was a blue Chrysler 300 with heavy front end damage. The vehicle registered to Adam Anthony Joseph Bauer (5/15/88), hereinafter Defendant. Airbags had deployed and a large amount of fluid was on the ground underneath the vehicle.
The vehicle was facing west and had struck a parking space guard pole. The pole was significantly bent. Defendant had exited his vehicle and appeared unsteady on his feet. He had a disheveled look. Defendant stated he was not exactly sure what happened. Defendant believed he had pressed the gas instead of the break and he stated he was sleepy and blacked out. Defendant had watery and glossy eyes and slurred speech. Defendant stated his mouth was super dry. He denied taking drugs or drinking. Defendant was fidgeting with his hands and avoiding eye contact.
A frisk search located a "smoke eraser" which defendant explained is used for blowing smoke into it. The device had a white powdery substance on it and Defendant stated he did not know what that was. Defendant stated in the past he has used heroin and that he used cocaine a few nights earlier. Deputies also located a baggie of needles on Defendant's person. Defendant was asked to perform field sobriety testing. Defendant showed clues during the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. During the walk and turn test, he used his arms to balance, asked clarifying questions and did not touch heel to toe.
On the one leg stand test, he swayed and used his arms to balance and put his foot down after counting to four. Defendant's eyes did not converge during the lack of convergence test. He had slight eyelid tremor during the Modified Romberg Test. Defendant admitted to using cocaine the prior day. A PBT was.00. Defendant was arrested. After his arrest defendant underwent a DRE evaluation where the opinion was that defendant was under the influence of a stimulant. A Deputy obtained a search warrant and obtained a blood sample.
During a search of the vehicle, several items were found inside a black bag, including needles, a scale, a metal spoon, and small bags with a white powdery substance. The substance in the baggies weighed.5 grams and field tested positive for cocaine. Several pills were also located in a container, including 13.5 pills of Alprazolam, a schedule IV controlled substance.
