On May 9, 2026, Minneapolis Police Officers were dispatched to a known apartment located in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on a shooting call. Upon arrival, officers located Victim, a known adult female who had been shot. Victim was transported to the hospital where she was declared deceased as a result of being shot. Officers spoke to Witness A, who was the renter of the apartment in question. Witness A reported that Victim [NAME REDACTED] at his apartment along with HENRIETTA SHAMANDRA CHILDRESS, the defendant herein, and an unknown male.
Witness A reported that the defendant, who he knows as “Hershey” and Victim were arguing over $50. Witness A stated that he was in the bathroom at the time of the shots and that just prior to the shots being fired, he heard the unknown male shout “Hershey, what are you doing?” or something to that effect. Witness A stated that he saw the defendant in possession of a gun earlier in the day. The defendant left the apartment with the unknown male after the shooting. Officers were able to obtain minimal surveillance video.
What was found showed a woman who matched the general appearance of the defendant leaving the apartment building in a hurry soon after the shooting. Officers were able to identify and interview the unknown male, hereinafter referred to as Witness B. Witness B reported that he was at the apartment in question with the defendant. Witness B stated that the defendant was arguing with Victim over a debt and that during the argument, the defendant went to the bedroom and returned with a pistol. Witness B stated that he told the defendant to stop but she fired multiple shots at Victim.
According to Witness B, he ran down the stairs with the defendant and they left the building. Witness B stated that the defendant threatened him and he got away from her as soon as he could. In a post-Miranda statement, the defendant initially denied having any knowledge of the shooting. After being confronted with surveillance video images, the defendant eventually admitted to being at the apartment in question at the time of the shooting. However, she denied being involved and provided no other information about the shooting.
The autopsy findings indicated that Victim’s cause of death was complications from multiple gunshot wounds. The defendant is currently in custody.
