On January 4, 2026, Crystal officers were dispatched to a home at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Crystal, Hennepin County, Minnesota for a report of a threat in progress. The reporting party, A. C., reported that her uncle John, later identified as JOHN DIAZ MARTINEZ, [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant” herein), was under the influence of crack cocaine and slashed A. C.’s tires. In the course of investigating this report, officers spoke with A. C., her fiancé R. B., her son C. T-L. (“Victim 1” herein), her daughter L. S. T-L. (“Victim 2” herein), and her son L. A. T-L. (“Victim 3” herein). While talking with Victim 1 about A. C.’s report, Victim 1 told officers that Defendant used to live with A. C. And Victim 1, but Defendant was recently “put out” of their home.
Victim 1 stated Defendant was living with Victim 1 and A. C. At their old house, but Victim 1 and A. C. Moved to the home on Regent Avenue on December 31, 2025, and Defendant was not allowed to move in with them. Despite this, Defendant was in the home on Regent Avenue on December 31, 2025. Victim 1 stated that, on the night of December 31, Defendant seemed to be intoxicated and was pointing a firearm at various people in the home. Victim 1 stated Defendant was “cocking and uncocking” his firearm while pointing it.
Victim 1 said Defendant was talking about killing “LOS” while he was pointing his firearm. Victim 1 described this firearm as a “380” revolver. Victim 1 stated he was scared for the people in the room with him and Defendant. Victim 1 stated he told Defendant to stop pointing the firearm at people, but Defendant continued to point the firearm. Victim 1 stated he knew Defendant had a real firearm because Defendant unloaded the firearm in front of Victim 1 and showed Victim 1 the bullets that were loaded inside the firearm.
Victim 2 stated she saw Defendant “waving around a gun” on December 31, 2025, and Defendant “wanted to shoot the person that was downstairs,” referring to “LOS.” It was later clarified that “LOS” is R. B.’s brother, but A. C. Stated “LOS” did not wish to be identified or involved. Victim 2 stated Defendant threatened to shoot “LOS” while he was waving his firearm and pointing it towards the bedroom “LOS” was in. Victim 2 said Defendant was waving his firearm around. Victim 2 described the firearm as a “.38,” and she stated she knew it was a.38 because Defendant told her that.
Victim 2 stated she knew Defendant had a real firearm because she had watched Defendant load the firearm. Victim 2 stated Defendant left the home after waving his firearm and threatening to shoot “LOS.” Victim 3 stated he was present during the incident on December 31, 2025. Victim 3 said he saw Defendant threatening to shoot “LOS” with the firearm, and Defendant also pointed the firearm directly at Victim 3. Victim 3 said this occurred around 8:30 P.M. After Defendant made threats to shoot “LOS” and pointed the firearm at Victim 3, Victim 3 took Defendant’s firearm from him, unloaded the firearm, and put it on his bed.
