On May 13, 2026, Fridley Police were dispatched to a shooting and a report of a robbery at an apartment complex on 72nd Avenue in Fridley, Anoka County. The reporting party was identified as Terry Lee Freeman ([DOB REDACTED]). Terry Freeman reported that his brother, D. D., had planned to purchase some marijuana from some unknown parties in a black Infiniti SUV, and Terry Freeman allowed D. D. To take one of his guns. Once D. D. Entered the SUV in the parking lot of the complex, he was robbed, and the firearm was among the items stolen.
D. D. Then fled the vehicle and yelled that he had been robbed. Terry Freeman stated that he then exited the complex, saw the vehicle’s occupants opening fire on D. D., and that he then returned fire with a different gun as the vehicle fled the parking lot. Police also spoke with Terry Freeman’s mother, Lisa Freeman ([DOB REDACTED]). Lisa Freeman reported that she was watching the interaction from her second-level balcony, and heard D. D. Yelling for help. She then retrieved a firearm as well and fired several shots at the vehicle as it left the parking lot.
Crime scene analysts examined the area and found eight shell casings near the area where Terry Freeman had been standing. An additional eight shell casings were found on Lisa Freeman’s balcony. The bullets struck a parked vehicle, two garage doors at the complex, a neighboring business, and may have also struck the fleeing SUV, which to date has not been identified. Surveillance footage from the complex corroborated D. D.’s account of being robbed, but at no time did it show any gunfire from the vehicle.
Terry Freeman and Lisa Freeman’s muzzle flashes are recorded, but there are no return flashes from the SUV. Additionally, examination of the apartment complex did not reveal any bullet holes, unknown cartridges, or other evidence of gunshots from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle’s path of travel out of the parking lot also did not reveal any shell casings or other evidence of gunfire. It should be noted that by the time Terry Freeman and Lisa Freeman began shooting, the SUV was already near the exit of the parking lot on 72nd Avenue.
Accordingly, both Terry Freeman and Lisa Freeman were placed under arrest, and the investigation into D. D.’s robbery continues.
