Deputy McManus of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding in an alley north of Charles, St. Paul, Ramsey County, by activating lights and sirens. The driver, later identified as Kevin Jamaal Byrd-Solseth, [DOB REDACTED], accelerated away from the squad at a high speed, bottoming out and nearly losing control as the vehicle hit bumps in the roadway. Byrd-Solseth fled from squads throughout the streets of St. Paul for 8.13 miles and engaged in numerous evasive and dangerous maneuvers.
He traveled at speeds near 90 mph on residential streets. He fled in the wrong lane of traffic. He brake-checked the squads. He swerved his vehicle toward squads. He drove over curbs and through a baseball field. He drove through the gap in a barricade at a dead end. He made u-turns. He swerved toward squad 2770 and contacted the squad causing him to lose control of his vehicle and colliding with a 2006 Honda CRV driven by GDJT, [DOB REDACTED]. She complained of chest pain and medics transported her to the hospital.
Investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by Byrd-Solseth was displaying the wrong plate and had been reported stolen out of Isanti County. Byrd-Solseth had warrants for his arrest for Possession of a Firearm by an Ineligible and Motor Vehicle Theft, both open Ramsey County cases. Byrd-Solseth has a long criminal history including the following relevant convictions: Receiving Stolen Property (2024) Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle (2022) (four convictions) Theft (2022) Theft of a Motor Vehicle (2022) Receiving Stolen Property (2022) Theft of a Motor Vehicle (2009).
