On 12/28/2025 at approximately 0245 hours, an on-patrol State Trooper observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near Interstate 35 and 60th St. In Minneapolis, Hennepin County. The Trooper pursued the vehicle and activated the squad vehicle’s front radar which acquired a speed reading of 88 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The Trooper then conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The Trooper approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver. The driver informed the Trooper that he did not have any identification on him.
The Trooper used the information provided by the driver and identified the driver as Johnathon Lee Sangathit, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. While speaking with Defendant, the Trooper noticed Defendant’s eyes to be glossy and bloodshot, and smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Defendant. The Trooper then performed a field sobriety test on Defendant and observed enough cues to prompt the Trooper to ask Defendant to take a PBT. Defendant agreed to take the PBT, which registered a BAC reading of.106. Defendant was arrested for DWI and transported to the HCJ. At the HCJ and following the breath test advisory, Defendant provided another breath sample which registered a BAC of.09. Defendant has three qualified prior impaired driving incidents in the past 10 years: 83-CR-23-90 – DWI – Convicted 03/07/2023. ••-CR-••-•••• – DWI – Convicted 12/27/2023. ••-CR-••-•••• – DWI – Convicted 01/09/2024. Defendant is currently in custody.
