On May 6, 2026, at approximately 6:10 P.M., police responded to 9XX Aurora Avenue, St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, on a report of an assault. The caller reported being blocked in and maced. Upon arrival, there were approximately ten people shouting and acting erratically. Police spoke with DLB, who reported that his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, TIANA LASHAY ALIZE HUGHES – [DOB redacted], and her mother blocked in his vehicle, then while he was boxed in, HUGHES ran up to his vehicle with pepper spray/mace and sprayed the pepper spray.
DLB reported that he got out of his vehicle to get away from HUGHES, and while he was in the street, HUGHES accelerated towards him with her vehicle and tried to hit him with her car. DLB’s mother, CMJ, told police that HUGHES showed up earlier in the day asking about their child. Police responded and told HUGHES to leave. CMJ said that later, DLB was sitting in his vehicle when HUGHES returned. CMJ also stated that HUGHES’s mother also came in her vehicle. CMJ reported that HUGHES pulled up alongside DLB’s vehicle and sprayed the driver’s side of the vehicle with mace and continued spraying him when he got out of the vehicle.
CMJ stated that HUGHES then drove her vehicle toward DLB. LVB told police that there was an earlier custody dispute between his stepson, DLB, and HUGHES. LVB reported that HUGHES drove by in her vehicle while spraying pepper spray out the window. LVB said it sprayed VLB and the van and that some got in his face. LVB pointed out HUGHES as the one who was spraying pepper spray. A witness a few blocks away reported seeing DLB’s vehicle boxed in by the vehicles driven by HUGHES and her mother after hearing constant car horns blaring in the area.
The witness reported that DLB bumped HUGHES’s mother’s vehicle twice before being able to get around it and drive away. HUGHES and her mother returned to the scene at the request of police. HUGHES’s mother, DLJ, told police that she was driving her vehicle when it was struck by DLB’s vehicle. DLJ said that she knew police were coming, so she blocked the roadway so DLB could not leave. DLB reported that her window was broken by DLB’s fist. Following a Miranda advisory, HUGHES told police that DLB is the father of her child and they previously dated.
HUGHES said she dropped off their child with DLB’s mother on May 5 then received a call from CPS on May 6 about a complaint filed. HUGHES believed that DLB’s mother or his family made the complaint. HUGHES said she tried to reach his family but was blocked. HUGHES stated that she went to DLB’s house and requested police assistance, but DLB was not present and she left. HUGHES tried to find DLB at his home in Richfield but was unsuccessful. HUGHES returned to the address and saw DLB sitting in his vehicle, so she pulled up next ot him and asked about their child.
