On February 25, 2026, officers with the Coon Rapids Police Department were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover crash with injuries at the intersection of Coon Rapids Blvd NW and Egret Blvd NW, city of Coon Rapids, county of Anoka. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2012 Mitsubishi Galant with MN License Plate # TJS 600 laying on its roof. A male, identified as the driver, JOSHUA WAYNE THORSON [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, was observed outside of the vehicle and appeared to be injured and bleeding.
A passenger, later identified as Defendant's brother, S. R. T., "Victim 1" herein, was trapped inside the suspect vehicle. Officers attempted to render aid to Defendant who was agitated, uncooperative, had dilated eyes and smelled strongly of a consumed alcoholic beverage. Defendant grabbed on to the wrist of one officer, C. L. P., "Victim 2" herein, and would not let go. Officers had to physically restrain Defendant in order to free Victim 2. Additional officers worked to free Victim 1 from the suspect vehicle.
Victim 1 was transported to Mercy Hospital to be treated for head and back pain. Victim 2 was transported to Mercy Hospital to be treated for a possible broken or dislocated wrist. Officers spoke with Witness [NAME REDACTED]P. And S. K. P. P. Who reported observing Defendant driving at a high rate of speed, swerving, and then traveling off the roadway and overturning. Both witnesses went to the crash to render aid and reported that Defendant smelled of alcohol. Witness [NAME REDACTED]P. P. Observed Defendant exit the driver's seat of the Mitsubishi.
Witness [NAME REDACTED]C. M. Reported seeing Defendant run a red light immediately before the crash but did not observe the crash. Defendant was placed under arrest and a search warrant obtained for a sample of his blood. Defendant provided a blood sample. At the scene, Defendant told officers that the crash was his fault and he was taking full responsibility for everything. Defendant is in custody.
