On or about May 10, 2026, at approximately 2:14 P.M. Minneapolis police officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving injuries at the intersection of 26th Street East and Cedar Avenue South, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Two vehicles crashed at the intersection after the striking vehicle, a tan BMW, ran a red light. When police arrived, there was a large crowd of people surrounding the wreckage. The two vehicles, the tan BMW and a silver Infinity were mangled and struck a fire hydrant.
Both vehicles had airbags deployed and suffered severe disabling damage. A male, later identified as ANTOINE ANTONIO JONES [DOB REDACTED] "Defendant" herein, approached a police officer at the scene claiming he was the passenger of the BMW. Defendant told police the driver was driving fast because he was trying to run away from people chasing him. Witnesses from the crowd told police that Defendant was the actual driver of the BMW and was attempting to walk away from the scene of the crash. Defendant was placed into handcuffs and while he was being escorted to a squad car he admitted to using cocaine prior to being involved in the crash.
Police determined defendant’s driver’s license was Cancelled- Inimical to Public Safety. Police located a clear pipe with a white powdery substance and burnt residue on the driver’s seat of Defendant’s BMW. Defendant was transported to the hospital for a blood draw. Officers obtained a search warrant for Defendant’s blood and his blood sample was submitted for testing. Witnesses at the scene told police that the male in an ambulance, “Victim 1” herein, was the actual front seat passenger in Defendant’s BMW. Victim 1 was transported to a nearby hospital for severe and potentially life-threatening injuries.
An investigator went to the hospital to talk to Victim 1 and learned that he had serious injuries to his head and body, was not conscious and was currently intubated. The driver of the silver Infinity, “Victim 2” herein, also appeared to have injuries. She was transported to the hospital. An investigator interviewed Victim 2, she said that doctors initially found a collapsed lung, and a few hours later her lung was no longer collapsed. An investigator reviewed BWC from the incident. Defendant appeared to be paranoid while telling officers he was being chased.
Milestone video was requested and reviewed which confirms Defendant was the driver of the BMW. At no point does it show another driver chasing Defendant. Milestone video shows Defendant driving at a high right of speed on Cedar Avenue South and 26th Street East. Before entering the intersection, Defendant can be seen changing lanes driving north bound in south bound lanes on Cedar Avenue South. The semaphores at the intersection were red. Defendant abruptly changes lanes as pedestrians were crossing over Cedar Avenue South on 26th Street East.
