On 2/28/2026 at 17:47 hours, Maplewood Police were dispatched to a Sober Living Facility at [ADDRESS REDACTED] E in Maplewood, Ramsey County on a report from the facility manager of a male resident who needed to go to detox and was no longer welcome in the residence. The manager called again and said that the unwanted male had broken back into the residence and was making threats and "pulling out blades." Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect male was Matthew Richard NOLAN ([DOB REDACTED]) and that he was in a bedroom.
NOLAN was called out of the room and arrested. The manager, ESA, said he was sitting on a couch when NOLAN entered the residence. NOLAN was intoxicated and appeared very upset. NOLAN approached ESA, slapped ESA’s cell phone out of a phone charger and then threw a table at ESA, which struck ESA’s right leg. ESA escorted NOLAN out of the residence, told NOLAN to go to Detox, and locked NOLAN out. NOLAN walked to the backyard, removed the sliding glass patio door from it's frame, and re-entered the residence.
ESA grabbed NOLAN, brought him to the ground, and told him he was calling the police. NOLAN walked back to his room and said that he should just cut ESA’s throat. ESA advised that he had lived at [ADDRESS REDACTED] E for two and a half months and that he and NOLAN were roommates. ESA later changed his story and said the officer should disregard the part where he said he heard NOLAN saying he wanted to cut his throat. ESA also said that he caught the table and it might not have hit him in the leg.
NOLAN was uncooperative with police, shouted at officers, and was spitting in the squad. NOLAN failed the booking process. Nolan has the following Qualified Domestic Violence Related Offense Convictions within the last ten years: 1) WI 482019CF000016 05/08/2023 Battery or Threat to Judge, Prosecutor, Law Enforcement Officer (F); 2) 86CR205166 04/14/2022 Domestic Assault by Strangulation (F); and 3) 86CR205409 03/29/2021 DANCO Violation (M).
