On March 8, 2026, officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute occurring at an apartment located in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. As officers got to the floor of the reporting party’s apartment, they heard a man yelling. Officers announced the presence and walked toward the apartment, but the male turned a corner down the hall. Officers went to the apartment and located the reporting party, an adult female identified herein as “Victim.” Victim [NAME REDACTED] had a bloody lip. She stated that she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, SHAWN DIONE DAVENPORT II [DOB REDACTED]. She had allowed DAVENPORT in her apartment, but he got upset when he went through her phone and saw correspondence between Victim [NAME REDACTED]. DAVENPORT punched her twice: once in the eye and once in the lip.
He also choked her multiple times to the point where she almost passed out while being choked. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in front of the front door while yelling at her. Victim told DAVENPORT she needed fresh air, and he initially opened the door but then tried to shut it before she could leave. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the door to prevent it from closing and forced her way out of the apartment. Her neighbor was coming out of her apartment, at which point the neighbor’s dogs came out of the apartment and one of them injured Victim’s arm.
The neighbor put the dogs away, at which point Victim was able to go back into her apartment and lock DAVENPORT out of the apartment. Police arrived shortly after this. Police were unable to locate DAVENPORT at the apartment, though officers believed he was the male on scene when they first arrived. Victim was also transported to the hospital to have her injuries from the assault and the dog assessed. DAVENPORT has at least two prior qualified domestic violence related convictions in the past ten years.
On February 21, 2023, DAVENPORT was convicted of felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation in court file 19HA-CR-22-931. On February 26, 2021, DAVENPORT was convicted of felony domestic assault in court file 19HA-CR-20-2348. DAVENPORT remains out of custody. Due to the serious nature of the offense charged, a warrant complaint is requested so conditions of release can be established.
