On September 7, 2025 at approximately 3:27PM, Officer Madson of the Faribault Police Department responded to a report of an assault on 1st Street NW in the City of Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota. Officer Madson spoke with A. H., Victim herein, who explained that prior to the incident, Victim and his ex- girlfriend, G. O., were arguing via text message that lead to the two breaking up. Victim [NAME REDACTED] during the text exchange, G. O.'s brother, later identified as REGINO ETHAN ORTEGA [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, sent Victim a text message threatening to go over and assault Victim.
Victim reported that shortly after receiving the text from Defendant, G. O. And Defendant arrived at Victim's residence, and the three parties were talking at Victim's front door. Victim told the officer that G. O. Began pulling Victim's hair and slapping Victim. Victim reported that Defendant joined G. O. By striking Victim multiple times with a closed fist. Victim showed Officer Madson a video, and Officer Madson observed Victim setting up a camera prior to answering the door. In the video, the officer observed G. O. Striking Victim first, followed by Defendant joining in.
Officer Madson observed that during the recording, G. O. Picked up the camera during the assault, and the video ended. Victim further reported to Officer Madson that after the video ended, Defendant continued to fight with Victim. Victim stated that he tackled Defendant out the front door and the two of them continued to fight in the front yard. A review of Defendant's criminal history does not show any qualifying prior convictions which would enhance this offense.
