On May 26, 2026, officers of the Fridley Police Department received a call from a female, Witness herein, who told them that her brother in-law, Darran Edward Farmer, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, was following her in a vehicle. Officer Strong met Witness at the Fridley Police Department where Witness provided a statement. Witness told officers that she and her husband, Victim herein, live in the same residence as Defendant located on Clover Pl NE in the city of Fridley, Anoka County, Minnesota.
Witness told officers that Defendant came to the portion of the home where Witness and Victim were staying and began to yell at Witness that she had to leave the house immediately with the children. Defendant then began to push her and the children up the stairs and out of the house. Witness left the house and got into her vehicle. Defendant also got into his vehicle. While Officer Strong was speaking with Witness, Officer Bakken observed Defendant pull into a parking lot where she made contact with Defendant.
Defendant indicated that he was in fear for Witness’s safety, which is why he made her leave the house. Defendant told Officer Bakken that he had been receiving threats from an unidentified male. Defendant refused to provide additional information about those threats. Officer Bakken told Defendant not to return to the residence for the night. Defendant agreed and Officer Bakken provided Defendant a ride to Brookly Park, where Defendant wanted to stay with another family member. Less than two hours later, officers were called back to the residence for a physical domestic.
When officers arrived back at the residence, they made contact with Defendant, who indicated that Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the face. Officers also made contact with Witness and Victim, who had left the residence and parked down the street before calling law enforcement. Victim told officers that he and Witness were in the basement of the residence when they heard Defendant return to the residence. Defendant then came downstairs and began to argue with Victim [NAME REDACTED] incident from earlier.
Victim further told officers that Defendant began to approach him in a manner that made Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to cause him harm. Victim [NAME REDACTED] told Defendant several times to leave them alone and tried to push Defendant away but Defendant continued to approach Victim. Defendant then punched Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Officers observed that Victim [NAME REDACTED] from the mouth and had dried blood on his lips. Victim [NAME REDACTED], after Defendant punched him, he hit Defendant with a mallet causing Defendant to fall to the ground.
When Defendant was on the ground, Victim and Witness were able to flee the basement with their children and drove down the street to call law enforcement. Witness also provided a statement and confirmed that she observed the events described by Victim. Defendant is Victim’s brother. Defendant has several prior qualified domestic violence convictions: Domestic Assault, court file 02-CR- 22-7657, conviction date 6/27/2023; Domestic Assault, court file ••-CR-••-••••, conviction date 6/23/2023.
