On April 13, 2026, at 0530 hours, St. Paul police officers responded to the 700 block of Jessamine, St. Paul, Ramsey County, on a report of a burglary with an assault. Officers met AAS, [DOB REDACTED], at the corner of Weide and Magnolia. She was with her 3-year-old child, [NAME REDACTED] in her home when the incident occurred. She said that her ex-boyfriend, Blong Maivang Vang, [DOB REDACTED], came to her house and entered without permission by kicking down the side door. He was upset that AAS had a male friend over.
Even though she and Vang had broken up, he viewed this as cheating. She reported that Vang grabbed knives from the kitchen. He threatened her with a knife saying that she “will never leave him.” He threw the knife up in the air and caught it while he was threatening her. He also swung the knife in her direction. She put her hands up over her face. She received defensive wounds to her hands. She told her friend to leave. She did not want to name her friend or involve him in the incident. She said that Vang left the house and returned with a black pistol.
He said, “I will kill you.” He held the gun to her head. She tried to call the police multiple times, but Vang interfered with the calls. Her phone showed 5 calls to 911. Eventually she got a call to go through. Vang ran from the house and left in his vehicle. AAS showed police a video of Vang holding and throwing a knife near AAS. Police also observed damage to her side door. On April 13, 2026, at 1730 hours, Minneapolis police officers arrested Vang on a pick-up and hold. They turned him over to St. Paul police officers.
In a post-Miranda interview, Vang said that he had been with AAS all day and she was drunk. When asked how the door received damage, he said AAS did it when she slammed it. When asked about the other male in the house, he said he was AAS’s friend. When asked about a knife, he said that he grabbed it to calm himself down. He denied threatening AAS. He denied preventing AAS from calling 911. When asked why he fled the scene if he did nothing wrong, he said that he just went for a walk. He denied having a firearm.
He said that he was scared because AAS was drunk and that is why he had the knife. Vang has multiple felony convictions including Drugs 2, 05/02/2024, and Ineligible in Possession of a Firearm, 05/02/2024.
