That on or about March 24, 2026, at approximately 11:30 P.M., an officer with the Columbia Heights Police Department was on routine patrol in the area of 37th Avenue and Central Avenue, Columbia Heights, Anoka County, Minnesota. During this time, law enforcement observed a 2009 American Motors Grand Cherokee Laredo, bearing Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED], with a broken, driver-side taillight emitting white light. Law enforcement identified the vehicle was registered to DANIEL JASON DEATON [DOB REDACTED], herein after Defendant.
After observing the vehicle operating in a suspicious manner for a short time, an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop at 11:54 P.M., in the area of 40th Avenue NE and Central Avenue NE. Upon activation of the officer’s emergency lights, the vehicle rapidly accelerated away and failed to stop. The driver committed multiple traffic violations while fleeing. An officer—who was attempting to deploy stop-sticks— was able to observe, and identify, Defendant as the operator of the fleeing vehicle.
Defendant continued southbound on Central Avenue towards Minneapolis. Law enforcement terminated the pursuit to ensure public safety and abide by department policy. The State requests a complaint summons in this matter.
