On 01/15/2026, Maplewood Police responded to a report that a Penske rental vehicle had been stolen from the Home Depot at [ADDRESS REDACTED] N in Maplewood, Ramsey County. The manager there, BWL, said that on 12/10/2025 a male suspect rented a 2024 International Harvester MV607N box truck (IN/3486225). The truck was rented for 24 hours and was supposed to be returned on 12/11/2025. The value of the truck was about $90,000. On the rental agreement, the suspect provided a name and date of birth (“Wesley WILLIAMS [DOB REDACTED]”) that later proved to be false and a Florida driver’s license number (W302208132010) that police later found was “not on file.” The suspect provided an address on Humboldt Ave in Minneapolis and phone number [PHONE REDACTED]. The transaction was captured on CCTV. When the truck was not returned on 12/11/15, Penske staff called the suspect at the telephone number he had provided, but the suspect did not answer.
Penske staff left the suspect a message telling him to return the truck immediately or they would report it stolen. On 1/15/26, more than a month after the truck was due back, Penske called the Maplewood police. Pursuant to a search warrant, a Maplewood Police Investigator determined that the credit card the suspect used for the rental belonged to “Anthony FIELDS.” Police also learned that the same credit card was used to rent another, almost identical, Penske truck in Plymouth, MN on 11-03-2025. CCTV footage of the Plymouth transaction revealed that the suspect was the same suspect who rented the Penske truck in Maplewood.
But, in Plymouth, the suspect provided the name “Anthony Anthony FILDER,” a different address (on Emerson Ave N in Minneapolis) and a different phone number [PHONE REDACTED]). The Investigator searched DVS records and found Anthony Dwayne FIELDS [DOB REDACTED]. FIELDS’ name matched the name on the credit card used for both rentals. In addition, the social security number, address, and date of birth associated with the credit card all matched FIELDS’ data. Based on this information and a comparison of FIELD’s DVS photo with CCTV images from the two rentals, the Investigator positively identified FIELDS as the suspect in both incidents.
Using the phone number associated with the credit card [PHONE REDACTED]), the Maplewood Investigator called FIELDS. FIELDS admitted that he rented the Maplewood truck and said he also remembered the truck rental in Plymouth. FIELDS lied and said that the Maplewood truck was rented for ten days and that he returned it to a Home Depot in Pennsylvania. He could not remember which one. FIELDS then changed his story and said he returned the truck to the Home Depot in Hagerstown, Maryland. FIELDS was unable to provide a cogent explanation for his use of fake names, a fake driver’s license number, and fake telephone phone numbers for the rentals.
