On January 5, 2026, at 11:28 A.M., Wright County Sheriff’s Office (“WCSO”) deputies were dispatched to Elm Grove Trailer Park in Southside Township, Wright County, on reports of a domestic disturbance. Dispatch advised that the suspect, Jesus Daniel Perez, Jr., [DOB REDACTED], herein after Defendant, had left the scene. WCSO Deputy Dawn Weed responded to the residence and made contact with the reporting party, J. C. R., [DOB REDACTED], who appeared very emotional and scared. J. C. R. Went on to state the following: Defendant is her ex-boyfriend; Defendant became upset with her because he believed they left a bag of groceries at the store; he stated he was going to kill her and she went into the bedroom; she heard banging in the kitchen and later learned he had thrown items all over the kitchen; he came into the bedroom and stated “I should kill you, you should be dead right now;” she is scared of him because he said he would kill her; and she doesn’t want to die, she has her first grandbaby coming.
J. C. R. Showed Deputy Weed around the residence and pointed out the items Defendant had broken. Deputy Weintzel located the Defendant’s vehicle on Highway 55 and initiated a traffic stop. Deputy Baumen arrived on scene and began speaking with Defendant about the incident. Defendant denied that anything physical had happened. While speaking with Defendant, Deputy Baumen could detect the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, and noted that he had slurred speech. Deputy Baumen asked Defendant if he would perform Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST’s) and he declined.
Deputy Baumen asked Defendant if he would submit a Preliminary Breath Test (“PBT”), which he agreed to perform, which indicated a Blood Alcohol Concentration (“BAC”) of.162. Defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Wright County Jail. Once at the Wright County Jail, Defendant was read the Breath Test Advisory, and refused to submit a breath sample. A review of Defendant’s criminal history indicates the following prior convictions: Misdemeanor Violation of a DANCO on 06/28/23; Misdemeanor Violation of a DANCO on 05/18/23; Felony Domestic Assault on 10/13/22; Gross Misdemeanor DWI on 02/17/22; Misdemeanor Fifth Degree Assault and Misdemeanor DWI on 09/09/21; and Misdemeanor Domestic Assault on 11/01/18.
