On April 12, 2026, at 10:10 A.M., officers assisted with a K9 sniff in Quad 04 B Mod of the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center, located in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. During the sniff, K9 Goose displayed a noticeable change in behavior inside Cell B07, specifically at the desk and shelf area, indicating the possible presence of narcotics. At the same time, officers initiated a shakedown of Quad 4B after paraphernalia was located in Cell B07. As inmates were directed out of B Mod, an inmate later identified as Zyere Jakay Porter ([DOB redacted], hereafter “Defendant”) attempted to re-enter his cell.
Officers observed Defendant enter Cell B07, drop two small white packets, retrieve them, and place them in his mouth. Officers issued verbal commands for Defendant to spit out the items. Defendant complied. One of the packets contained a white powdery substance consistent with narcotics. The item was seized as evidence. Following K9 Goose’s alert, officers conducted a search of Cell B07. On the desk, officers located a deck- of-cards box containing torn ibuprofen packets. Inside the packets were several folded papers containing a white powdery substance and one white oblong pill later identified as Gabapentin.
Officers also located additional acetaminophen packets containing concealed narcotics. While speaking with officers, Defendant stated that the item removed from his mouth was medication and that all items located in the cell belonged to him and were medications provided by jail medical staff. On April 13, 2026, officers retrieved the evidence from secure locker #1 at the jail and transported it to the Hennepin County Investigations Evidence Room, where it was placed in temporary locker #45. On April 28, 2026, officers retrieved the evidence from locker #45, processed, and photographed the items.
The following items were documented and repackaged: • Box containing playing cards where narcotics were located • Empty ibuprofen packet • Ibuprofen packet containing one Gabapentin pill labeled “D 24” • Fentanyl, approximately 0.03 grams, folded in a paper towel • Fentanyl, approximately 0.17 grams, wrapped in yellow paper • Methamphetamine, approximately 0.32 grams, concealed inside an acetaminophen packet • Two additional acetaminophen packets found with item #6 • Original packaging Defendant is currently in custody on an unrelated offense.
