On or about June 21, 2024, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offender Task Force (“VOTF” herein) officers obtained a search warrant for the person of TYRONE JAMES BARRETT (“Defendant” herein) and his known address at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota based upon an ongoing investigation into Defendant due to confidential informant (“CI” herein) information of Defendant possessing several firearms and selling narcotics, including but not limited to fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Part of the information provided by the CI was that Defendant had either an “AR or AK rifle” in his room on the wall. The CI also informed VOTF that Defendant was seen driving a white Audi, MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED], within 72 hours of the warrant execution. VOTF executed the warrant in the early morning hours of June 26, 2024. Upon arrival at the home on 4th Street North, officers observed the white Audi parked in the rear of the home. Officers identified an adult female, a juvenile female, and Defendant in the home, as well an adult male in the yard.
Officers searched the home and found mail directed to Defendant in the kitchen drawer. Officers searched Defendant’s bedroom in the northeast corner. Officers recovered the following from Defendant’s bedroom: 1. Mailing for Defendant, located on the dresser 2. Miscellaneous ammunition and a magazine from a range belt, located on the floor 3. An armored vest, hanging up in the closet in the bedroom 4. One box of 12-gauge ammunition and a handgun holster, located inside a shoe box in the closet in the bedroom 5. A large quantity of a white powder, which field tested positive for fentanyl, located in the closet in the bedroom 6. A black handgun magazine with rounds loaded inside, located on the floor 7. One Palmetto State Armory AR 5.56, serial number W1918621, with a magazine, hanging on the wall of the bedroom 8. One Kel-tec KSG 12-gauge shotgun, serial number 24x2915 with one round inside, located inside of a soft case on the bed 9. One Century Arms VSKA Drako 7.62, serial number SV7P001372, found inside the same soft case on the bed as the Kel-tec Officers searched other rooms on the main floor of the home.
Officers recovered the following from a hamper located in the bathroom on the main floor: 10. HK/MP5.22 caliber firearm, serial number HD058085 4 27-CR-26-4174 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 2/19/2026 Defendant was detained. Defendant told officers that the home at [ADDRESS REDACTED] was his house, but many of the vehicles in the back of the property were not his. Defendant said the white Audi belonged to a friend, but he was doing work on the car. Defendant was wearing a lanyard with Audi keys around his neck during the interview.
Defendant told officers he relapsed and started smoking fentanyl again. Defendant said his bedroom is on the main floor of the home, and his two daughters live on the main floor as well. Defendant said that the room on the main level of the home with the AR on the wall is his bedroom. Defendant initially denied that there were any other firearms in his bedroom. Officers then searched the white Audi, MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED], parked in the rear of the residence and recovered the following: 11. Defendant’s wallet with his ID in it, located in the driver’s door panel 12. A P80 9 mm ghost gun, no serial number, with one round in the chamber, located in a black bag in the rear seat 13. Three extended loaded magazines, located in the same black bag in the rear seat Officers interviewed Defendant a second time.
