On March 17th, 2026 at approximately 8:24 PM, Ofc. Kenison was working as a Hospital Resource Officer at St. Mary’s Hospital. Kenison responded to a report of an assaultive patient. On arrival to the patient’s room, Kenison assisted in controlling the patient’s legs. The patient was later identified as defendant herein, Cory Lynn Spiess [DOB REDACTED]. Kenison witnessed defendant attempt to bite Saint Mary’s security staff several times as they controlled his head and hands. Kenison noted that one Officer, hereinafter identified as Victim 1, was bleeding from the left hand.
Kenison heard a spitting sound as nursing staff attempted to cover defendant’s mouth to avoid defendant’s spit. One nurse, hereinafter referred to as Victim 2, stated that he could feel droplets of spit fall on his face from defendant spitting at him. Two spit hoods were used on defendant because he kept tearing them off and spitting at staff. Victim 1 provided a statement wherein he stated that defendant grabbed his wrist and used his nails to scratch Victim 1. Defendant spit on Victim 1’s fingers during the struggle.
Victim 1 showed scratches on his wrist and stated that his left wrist may have been dislocated during the struggle. Victim 1 reported that defendant stated, “I’m going to kill one of you.” And attempted to grab an object from a nearby cart, which Victim 1 interpreted as Defendant grabbing for weapons. Victim 1 reported that a Doctor reviewed his wrist injury, confirmed that it may have dislocated, and popped it back into place. Victim 2 gave a statement wherein he stated that Defendant spit in his direction and that the spit contacted his face.
Victim 2 also stated that defendant made threats to kill the individuals present during the altercation. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: YOU MUST APPEAR FOR EVERY COURT HEARING REGARDING THIS CASE. FAILURE TO APPEAR FOR COURT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE AND MAY RESULT IN ADDITIONAL CRIMINAL CHARGES BEING IMPOSED AND PUNISHED AS PROVIDED IN MINNESOTA STATUTES SECTION 609.49.
