On or about April 19, 2026, Barnesville Police Department Officers responded to a report of a domestic assault that occurred at 101 4th St. NE in Barnesville, located in Clay County, MN. On scene, Officer J. Atteberry spoke with BREANNA JEANETTE ZIEGLER [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant, who stated she and J. L. M., hereinafter the Victim, [NAME REDACTED] in an argument. The Defendant and the Victim have been dating for two years and have a child [NAME REDACTED]. During the conversation, Officer Atterberry noticed that the Defendant had dried blood on her hands.
The Defendant stated that the argument started as a disagreement over her medications, and that during the argument, she had punched the Defendant's television, breaking it, she threw things off the table, and she threw a dolphin figurine at him. The Defendant also stated that the Victim claimed she tried to stab him, but that she did not. The Defendant additionally stated that she had a pair of scissors in her hand and was making motions toward the Victim to 'leave her alone.' When asked about the incident, the Victim stated that it started as a verbal disagreement, and that during the disagreement, the Defendant went to the bathroom and slammed the door.
The Victim stated the Defendant later came out of the bathroom and began throwing things and also broke his television. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] on his hands that reportedly came from him blocking a candle figurine that was thrown at him. The Victim [NAME REDACTED], he decided to call 911. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] went to call 911, the Defendant continued to throw things around the residence. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] attempting to make the call, the Defendant punched him in the genitals and face multiple times.
Officers were able to observe swelling on the Victim's face, and that his eye was beginning to turn black and blue. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] at some point during the altercation, the Defendant attempted to stab him with a pair of scissors. Other cuts were identified on the Defendant's person, but their exact cause was unknown. The Defendant has at least two prior convictions for domestic assault related offenses; including a 2023 gross misdemeanor domestic assault conviction out of Clay County, and an additional Gross Misdemeanor Domestic violence conviction out of Cass County, ND.
