On June 8, 2026, at approximately 5:00 P.M., Saint Paul Officers responded to the 1800 block of University Avenue, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on a shots fired case. There was a bullet hole in TLW’s apartment at the baseboard of the south side of the wall in the living room. A closet door in the center of the apartment had a bullet hole in its door. In the closet, there was a bullet lodged into the wall in the back of the closet. The direction of the bullet was from apartment W227. TLW said she left her apartment at around 6:30 A.M. And returned at around 3:30 P.M. When she left her apartment, there was no bullet hole.
When she returned, she noticed a bullet hole on the wall in the living room. As officers were on scene, a male-LAMAH ABDUL BILITY, [DOB redacted]-walked toward them. BILITY lived in apartment W227, and said he lived alone. BILITY confirmed he had a firearm on his. The firearm was removed from his waistband. BILITY said he was at his brother’s birthday. He accidentally fired a shot inside the apartment with the firearm a few hours prior. He disposed of the casing as there was a strong smell in the residence.
He said he may have placed the casing in jacket pocket. He returned to his apartment and left his clothing there. BILITY signed a consent form to search his apartment. A bullet hole was in the wall in BILITY’s living room under a desk. There was a rolled-up piece of paper inside the hole. A sixteen round magazine was on the desk in the living room. A gun box was under BILITY’s bed in his bedroom. A jacket was inside BILITY’s closet, but the casing was not found at that time. Later, Officer Lenander searched the jacket again and in the right pocket of the jacket.
The following items were recovered. Canik Firearm 9mm SFX Rival; 16 round magazine from handgun; 9 mm round from chamber; bullet recovered from wall; rolled up piece of paper found in the bullet hole; magazine located on table in W227, 16 rounds in magazine; gun holster located near nightstand in the bedroom; gun box found under bed in bedroom; multi-colored jacket found in closet; spent 9mm casing found in jacket. BILITY has a permit to carry a firearm. After a Miranda advisory, BILITY spoke to an investigator.
He said he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally fired. He knocked on his neighbor’s door several times to check on her, with negative results.
