On February 27, 2026, at approximately 12:16 A.M., law enforcement was dispatched to the 300 block of 13th Street NE in the City of Austin, County of Mower, on a report of a firearms complaint. The reporting party (an adult female) advised that she had heard a gunshot, and a female screaming that someone’s face had been shot at. Officer Hansen of the Austin Police Department arrived at the scene and observed M. A. J. (an adult male) walking southbound on the west side of 13th St NE. Hansen then observed Victim A (an adult male) near 301 13th Street NE waving him down with his phone light.
Officer Hansen made contact with Victim A who stated that TRAVIS JON HATFIELD, DOB/062192, the defendant herein, had a gun, had shot it in his face, was actively drinking and driving, and fled the area in a gold/tan Nissan Rogue (MN LIC/SJA135). Victim A described the gun as a silver or chrome handgun. Hansen observed Victim A to be extremely shaken, breathing heavily, and dry heaving at times. Officer Hansen asked Victim A to describe what happened. Victim A stated that he, M. A. J., and the defendant each have children with R. L. R. (an adult female). Victim A stated that the defendant and M. A. J. Arrived at his residence at approximately 12:00 A.M. Victim A stated that the defendant was driving the Nissan Rogue and M. A. J. Got out and spoke with Victim A. Shortly thereafter, the defendant got out of the vehicle and Victim A stated he told the defendant to leave.
The defendant then took the Nissan and left. Victim A stated that M. A. J. Was drunk and alleged that Victim A was having issues with R. L. R. Victim A was speaking with M. A. J. In the driveway/front yard of his residence. The defendant returned to Victim A’s residence approximately five to six minutes after he had left and parked on the east side of 13th Street NE across from Victim A’s residence. The defendant then asked M. A. J. To leave with him. Both M. A. J. And Victim A told the defendant to leave.
Victim A stated the defendant then exited the Nissan and began crossing the street towards him while adjusting his waistband. Victim A said when the defendant was mostly across the street, the defendant pulled out a handgun from his waistband and racked the slide. Victim A told the defendant he was going to have to shoot him, and Victim A moved toward the defendant. The defendant pointed the gun at Victim A, Victim B (an adult female), and their house. Victim A said the defendant began backing up as Victim A continued to move towards him.
When the defendant got back near the Nissan, he discharged one round from the gun towards the residence. Victim A said he believed the round would have flown above the house. The defendant then got into the Nissan and fled the area. Victim A stated that there were four (4) children inside the residence at the time the defendant discharged the firearm in the direction of the house. The defendant said he saw the muzzle flash of the gun and described the gun as being mostly a silver semi-automatic handgun that possibly had different colored grips.
