On October 28, 2024, Special Agent Joyce of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) received a Cybertip report initiated by Snapchat indicating that one of their users uploaded files containing suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on December 19, 2023. Snapchat provided information related to the incidents as well as information about their user including an email address (“fancyunicorn8@.”), a user name (“itsfive_am”) and IP addresses associated with the uploaded files. Based on the subsequent investigation, it was determined that the user was CODY SCOTT ADAMS, DOB/021001, the defendant herein.

During the investigation, Agent Joyce issued subpoenas to Snapchat, Google, Cellco, and T-Mobile related to the Cybertip. The information gathered from the subpoenas associated with the defendant, the defendant’s family members, and his workplace. On November 12, 2024, Agent Joyce reviewed the files provided by Snapchat. Within the results, Joyce noted several files containing CSAM. The child [NAME REDACTED] on her stomach taking a selfie style photo. In the photo, you could see the child’s face, as well as her bare buttocks. The female’s feet were kicked up behind her. The photo did not show the child’s face, and her brown hair was covering her nipples. Based on the background of the photo, it appeared to be the same child [NAME REDACTED]. The female’s feet were kicked up behind her. The image appears to be the same female from the aforementioned photo however from a slightly different angle. The child can be observed taking off the t-shirt and her underwear. The child’s breasts and vagina are visible within the video.

Additionally, the child gets closer to the camera and exposes her breasts and vagina to the camera before appearing to dance in front of the camera. The child appears to lack breast development, development of pubic hair, and any signs of hip widening indicative of pubescence. In addition to the files containing CSAM, Snapchat also provided images that appeared to be of the defendant. The images are “selfie” style images consistent with the defendant taking the photos from a cellular phone. Agent Joyce obtained the defendant’s Minnesota Driver’s License photo and confirmed these Snapchat images matched the defendant’s DL photo.
