On January 30, 2026, at 8:02 A.M. Deputy Dunham was dispatched to a report of a vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of U. S. Highway 12 and Summerfield Drive in Waverly, Wright County, Minnesota. Deputy Dunham observed a Volkswagen Jetta in the ditch. It appeared the vehicle had struck a utility pole. Deputy Dunham located the driver of the vehicle nearby and identified him as Nicholas Brandon Palmer, [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein. The defendant exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance in that his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and watery, his pupils were constricted, and his pupils did not react to a light stimulus.
The defendant’s movements were lethargic and sluggish. The defendant had sunken in cheeks and scabs on his neck and face. The defendant admitted using marijuana the night before. The defendant admitted recent methamphetamine use saying he used two days prior. The defendant exhibited multiple signs of impairment during the performance of standard field sobriety tests. Deputy Dunham determined the defendant was under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested him. Deputy Dunham obtained a search warrant authorizing the taking of a blood or urine sample from the defendant.
The defendant provided a urine sample at the jail which will be sent to the crime lab for analysis. An inventory search of the defendant’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine with a weight of.47 grams and a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. Defendant has an implied consent revocation from 2023 for an alcohol concentration of.08 or more.
