15 P.M., deputies of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of that a male broke the caller’s nose at a residence in the 300 block of 7th Street North in Kandiyohi, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, Sgt. Julie Wyffels knocked on the door. Adult Female A answered the door and confirmed she had called 911. Sgt. Wyffels observed blood on Adult Female A’s face around her nose. Sgt. Wyffels observed a male come out of a back room who was later identified as MICHAEL VERNON COSS [DOB REDACTED]. When asked what was going on, COSS replied all was good.
Sgt. Wyffels observed blood on COSS’S face. Deputy Lleyten DeKraai spoke with Adult Female A. Deputy DeKraai observed that Adult Female A had blood on her face, a scratch on her nose and red marks on her neck. Adult Female A reported that COSS had been drinking. They got into an argument and COSS started grabbing her face and yelling at her. She told COSS she was going to call the police. COSS grabbed her phone so she couldn’t call for help. COSS went into his room with the phone. Adult Female A got her phone and went back to the living room where she laid down.
COSS placed his hand on Adult Female A’s throat, applying pressure and putting his hand over her mouth. Adult Female A had a difficult time breaking when COSS did that. Adult Female A went into another room and called 911. COSS followed her and pinned her down. COSS head‐ butted her face and nose a few times. Adult Female A said she pushed COSS to try to get him off of her. Adult Female A was scared for her life. Adult Female A said they moved in together about one month ago but have been dating for 10 years.
Sgt. Wyffels spoke with COSS. COSS stated there was some frustration between him and Adult Female A. Sgt. Wyffels told him he had blood on his face. He asked if he was bleeding and Sgt. Wyffels said no. It did not appear to be his blood. When asked how he got blood on his face, COSS replied dumb stuff. COSS admitted to arguing about dumb things but wouldn’t say any more than that. Sgt. Wyffels asked if he head butted Adult Female A, he said no. COSS said he was upset that Adult Female A slept all day and she likes to play the victim.
COSS stated at one point that they head‐butted when they were scuffling. He said their heads only bumped Sgt. Wyffels noted that COSS smelled greatly of alcoholic beverage. COSS was placed under arrest. After being arrested, COSS asked why Adult Female A was not being arrested too stating she attacked him first. Once at the jail, Deputy Kubesh read COSS his Miranda rights and asked if he was willing to 3 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 11/25/2025 provide a statement.
