On March 5, 2026, around 1:00 A.M., law enforcement observed a vehicle that was all over the road near Service Drive and University Avenue, Coon Rapids, Anoka County. The vehicle was a gray 2016 Subaru Legacy (MN/NWE789). Further observation showed the vehicle driving into Northtown Mall, immediately turning back onto University Avenue, and going through the red light to get back onto University Avenue. The vehicle continued to drive erratically. Law enforcement attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle by activating its emergency lights and sirens.
At this time, law enforcement was also able to confirm the vehicle had been stolen out of Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, on March 4, 2026, around 2:04 P.M., and it was taken with keys by a 6 foot tall male with a scruffy beard wearing all black from the American Legion parking lot. The registered owner is C. S. And L. S. L. S. Told law enforcement she may have dropped her keys on the ground on her way inside the business and that is how the suspect took her car. The vehicle did not stop for law enforcement, and after stop sticks were unsuccessful in stopping the vehicle, a PIT maneuver had to be implemented to stop the vehicle.
The driver and sole occupant were eventually identified as Dustin Charles Adams-Powell [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein. Defendant matches the description of the individual who was seen stealing the vehicle the day prior. Prior to positive identification, defendant told law enforcement he was Nevin John Abel [DOB REDACTED], which is not a real person. Defendant had a revoked license. As defendant was being taken into custody he uttered “Make sure that car gets back to the Eagle’s Nest,” as well as “I’m guilty.
I did it.” In a search of the vehicle, multiple open containers of alcohol were found.
