EI started to bleed immediately. JOHNSON continued to swing the machete at him, and EI tried to grab it. JOHNSON swung the knife at his neck, and “…tried to cut my head off.” They began to tussle in the living room and ended up in the hallway. EI backed into the bathroom and fell over into the bathtub. JOHNSON followed him into the bathtub and tried to push 2 62-CR-26-1437 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 3/3/2026 the machete into his stomach. EI grabbed the blade of the machete to prevent JOHNSON from stabbing him in the stomach, causing cuts to his hands.
EI held onto the blade, but JOHNSON pulled it away from him. RB got in between and pushed JOHNSON out of the house. EI got up and sat on the stairs. He had a hard time breathing and felt lightheaded. He saw RB’s BB gun leaning on the wall. He grabbed it in case JOHNSON went back at him. He pumped the BB gun. He saw JOHNSON inside the house and yelling at him. RB held JOHNSON back. As JOHNSON got closer to him, he tried to hit JOHNSON with the stock of the BB gun. The BB gun broke and pieces flew everywhere.
JOHNSON then left the house. Subsequent interview with EI EI said he lives with RB and her children at the residence on Forest Street. When asked about the BB gun, EI said he picked it up after he was attacked. EI said he pumped the BB gun and a round went off. JOHNSON went into the house and said something to him. EI swung the BB gun at JOHNSON. The BB gun struck JOHNSON, but EI said he was not aware of this at the time. JOHNSON’s Statements: When responding to the call, Officer Vandersteen saw JOHNSON walking away from the home.
JOHNSON said he was in a fight with his mother’s boyfriend, and his hand was cut.
