On September 17th, 2025, Minneapolis Police officers observed a silver Chevy Tahoe, MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED] run a red light on westbound Golden Valley Rd at Penn Ave. N., Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Officers initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver side of the vehicle. The sole occupant and driver was identified as BRETT DWAYNE DZUBAY-PERCY, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant." Defendant was found to have a revoked driving status. Officers advised him to legally park the vehicle on Thomas Ave N. Defendant complied and left the scene on foot.
Officers looked through the windows of the vehicle after Defendant was released from the scene and saw a firearm in plain view underneath the driver seat of the silver Chevrolet Tahoe. Officers checked his criminal history and found he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a April 27, 2015 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery conviction in court file 27- CR-14-9305. Officers called for a tow truck to tow the Chevrolet Tahoe. Officers on scene recovered the firearm from underneath the driver seat of the vehicle, along with a backpack from the rear of the vehicle which contained other firearm parts and accessories.
Officers later obtained a search warrant for Defendant's DNA. Defendant allowed for his collection of a buccal swab. This swab and swabs from the firearm and parts found in the vehicle were sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for further testing. On November 25, 2025, a forensic scientist with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension analyzed the swabs taken from Defendant and the gun. The DNA observed on the gun was interpreted as a mixture originating from three individuals. The major male DNA profile matches the Defendant.
