On May 10, 2025, at 1734 hours, Metro Transit police officers responded to the eastbound Lexington LRT, St. Paul, Ramsey County, to take a robbery report. DRT, [DOB REDACTED], said that he left his belongings on the eastbound platform while he went to the nearby Autozone store to make a quick purchase. When he returned, multiple people were going through his belongings. He intervened to stop them. They resisted and managed to get away with cell phone, portable charager, and Bluetooth speaker. They also took his medication.
The incident was captured by cameras. The video shows DRT arriving at the EB platform at 0341 hours. He remained there for the next 12 hours, sleeping, and interacting with others. He intermittently reorganized his belongings. At 1543 hours, he left the platform and walked to Autozone. Four suspects arrived and met mid-platform at 1608 hours. They began to rummage through DRT’s bags. They removed DRT’s property and placed it in their bags. At 1639 hours, DRT returned and confronted the group. They appeared unwilling to return DRT’s belongings.
DRT retrieved an item from his pocket and raised it over his head. Suspect 2 (unidentified female) handed a bent piece of metal to suspect 1, a male later identified as Te’Aun Kalvin Range, [DOB REDACTED]. Suspect 3, later identified as Xavier Robert York-Tallman, [DOB REDACTED], retrieved a utility pry bar. Range waved the piece of metal in DRT’s face. Suspect 2 and York- Tallman each grabbed one of DRT’s bags. DRT grabbed the bag held by York-Tallman. DRT and York- Tallman struggled over the bag.
York-Tallman managed to wrestle the bag from DRT. Suspect 2 threw a dolly cart at DRT, striking him in the back. Range threatened to strike DRT with the piece of metal. Range then threw the metal at DRT, missing him. Range picked up another piece of bent metal and advanced toward DRT, forcing him to retreat backward. Range threw that piece of metal at DRT, striking him in the shoulder. Range and suspect 2 continued to aggressively posture while they backed DRT into the corner of the shelter. Range and suspect 2 then departed on scooters.
On June 12, 2025, at 1230 hours, Metro Transit officers located Range traveling on LRV Green line 229. They followed his movements and arrested him at University and Arundel, St. Paul. They showed Range still images from the incident and Range admitted that he was involved. He denied robbing DRT. He claimed he gave property back to DRT. On August 22, 2025, officers recognized York-Tallman on a green line train. Officers detained him at the LRT Western station and verified his involvement by reviewing surveillance images.
York-Tallman admitted without questioning that he was involved in the incident. He claimed that he did not assault the victim. He admitted to taking one of his suitcases.
