At around 7:55 PM on June 2, 2026, officers were sent to Keller Regional Park at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Maplewood, Ramsey County on a shooting. Callers said the shooting suspect left in a white Dodge Durango that was headed toward Highway 61. A police canine located a spent.40 caliber casing in the east parking lot near a Chevrolet Equinox bearing Minnesota license plates KYF997. Officers located the Equinox’s keys a short distance away. Witnesses instructed officers to search a grassy area east of the pavilion.
Officers found two spent 9mm casings and a cell phone in that area. Officers stopped a 2019 Dodge Durango bearing Minnesota license plates SCZ419 on County Road B East near Birmingham Street North. RM drove the Durango, CARLOS JAMES JELINEK [DOB REDACTED] was in the front passenger seat, ANGELICA ROSE JELINEK [DOB REDACTED] was in the rear driver’s seat, and EO was in the rear passenger seat. CO told police there was a gathering to celebrate her dead sister. The remembrance started at a St. Paul funeral home, but CO wasn’t there because she was decorating the pavilion at the park.
CO heard Angelica Jelinek showed up at the funeral home and caused issues. CO heard Angelica Jelinek flashed a gun at JK during an argument at the funeral home. Everyone left the funeral home and drove to Keller Park for the celebration of life. Everyone was getting along at the park until Angelica Jelinek began to talk s*** about JK. CO stepped in and told everyone they had to leave the event. Carlos Jelinek, Angelica Jelinek, and two others tried to jump JK. Angelica tried to punch CO’s face, but CO blocked the punch with her hands.
Angelica Jelinek punched the right side of CO’s face. CO pushed back, and Carlos Jelinek, Angelica Jelinek, and RM tried to jump CO. Carlos Jelinek pulled out a black handgun, pointed the gun at CO and JK, shot once in the air and then shot 3 more times at CO. CO said the phone found in the grass likely belonged to Carlos Jelinek as he was standing there when he fired the gun. Carlos Jelinek got into a white SUV and fled the scene. Officers spoke to JK at Keller Park. JK said there was a group of people who showed up at the pavilion and started trouble.
There was an argument, and JK head gunshots. JK said he was unable to describe the shooter, but the shooter fled in a white Dodge Durango. When removed from the Durango, EO told officers he heard shots, but he did not fire them. EO later declined a custodial statement. Officers found a Springfield Hellcat 9mm handgun in the center console and a Smith and Wesson.40 caliber handgun and magazine under the passenger side rear seat in the second row. The cell phone recovered at the scene near the 9mm casings appeared to belong to Carlos Jelinek.
Angelica Jelinek asked officers about a silver 2017 Chevrolet Equinox bearing Minnesota license plates KYF997. Angelica Jelinek said, “[RM]’s not going in, but [RM]’s gun was involved.” Carlos Jelinek was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to speak to police. He said EO is his younger brother from a different mother, and Angelica Jelinek is his sister. There was a funeral ceremony for EO’s family member. They went to support EO and his family. Angelica Jelinek and EO arrived in Angelica’s Chevrolet Equinox.
