On April 15, 2026, at approximately 8:45 A.M., Saint Paul Officer Too located a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Taco Bell, [ADDRESS REDACTED], Saint Paul, County of Ramsey. The vehicle was a red 2008 Saturn Vue, registered owner MMD, and reported stolen to Inver Grove Police. The vehicle was occupied by two people and a dog. Officers approached the vehicle. DAVID LEE MOREN, [DOB REDACTED], was seated in the driver’s seat. CAK was seated in the front right passenger’s seat. MOREN and CAK were removed from the vehicle and handcuffed.
A key for the vehicle was in the ignition of the vehicle. MOREN declined an interview, but said he bought the vehicle from a friend. After a Miranda advisory, CAK spoke to an officer. She said MOREN is her ex-boyfriend. She said her friend, RJ, was allowing her and MOREN to borrow the car so she could move out of her home. She and MOREN met with RJ and her boyfriend, MXXXXX (this is the registered owner’s first name), at the Cub in Maplewood on April 14th. MOREN had warrants for felony Theft and Burglary in the Third Degree.
MMD met with an Inver Grove Heights Officer on April 14, 2026. MMD said Maplewood Police contacted him on April 14th at 9:00 A.M. And advised him his vehicle was used in several crimes in Maplewood. He said he went to Stagecoach Trucking in Inver Grove Heights to see if his vehicle was in the parking #1210. He discovered his 2008 red Saturn Vue was missing. He last saw the vehicle on March 15, 2026. MMD said his vehicle was parked with no battery under the hood. He only has one set of keys for the vehicle.
MMD spoke with Sgt. Avent, SPPD. MMD said he did not sell the vehicle to MOREN and does not know him. MMD said his vehicle was in storage in Inver Grove Heights. He removed the battery from the vehicle and locked the doors to prevent it from being stolen. MMD said there is some damage to the vehicle that occurred as a result of the theft. The passenger side front fender and rear bumper are dented. The shifter console is also damaged. MMD estimated the value of his vehicle at $2000-$2,500. MMD said he learned that his vehicle was stolen when he was contacted by a Maplewood Police Officer.
MMD said he does not know CAK and did not give her permission to use the vehicle to move. MMD also said he has no idea who RJ is. MMD said he located several other keys and key fobs in his vehicle, and threw them away. He also said there was a lock out tool (used to gain entry into a vehicle without a key) located in the passenger front area of his vehicle. The lock out too was not his and he does not know how it got inside his vehicle.
