On March 21, 2026, at 7:45 PM, officers with the Metro Transit Police Department were monitoring the intersection of Elliot Avenue and Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers observed a male holding a plastic baggie. The male retrieved items from the baggie and proceeded to give the items to three other individuals. Once the other individuals retrieved the items from the male they left the area. Officers believed that these interactions were narcotics sales. Officers located the male and detained him.
The male identified himself as “Jones Derrick” and refused to provide a date of birth. Officers brought the male to the front of a squad vehicle and searched him. Officers found, in the male’s pocket, an identification card issued by the State of Minnesota. The identification card was in the name of Tavarus Hardaway [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”). Officers ran Defendant’s name and found that he had an outstanding warrant with the United States Marshals Service. During this time, Defendant’s hands were clenched.
Defendant eventually opened his hands and officers located the plastic baggie. Inside of the baggie was a substance that field-tested positive for Cocaine, a schedule-II controlled substance, and weighed 0.97-grams. Defendant is presently in custody in Sherburne County for what appears to be a Probation Violation related to a federal offense. Therefore, a warrant is requested to ensure Defendant’s appearance.
