On May 11, 2026, at approximately 5:00 P.M., Saint Paul Officers responded to a group home on the 1300 block of Prior Avenue, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on a person in crisis who was threatening residents with a knife. Program Director AH spoke with police. AH said ABDULLAHI MOHAMAD ABDI, [DOB REDACTED], is a resident of the home. ABDI was frustrated because he wanted to run errands. ABDI was told he needed to wait until the night staff arrived to go. ABDI went outside to wait by the car. AMA also went outside.
AH saw ABDI run toward FGA with a knife. Multiple staff members and residents were able to get the knife from ABDI. AH said knives are not allowed in the building. AMA said he is a staff member at the home. ABDI requested to go to a tobacco shop and he agreed to take him. AMA said there were other residents who wanted to go to the tobacco shop and he was waiting for them. ABDI became agitated about waiting and an argument followed. The argument continued to the front patio of the house where ABDI said he wanted to fight him.
AMA tried to calm ABDI when another resident, FGA, stepped into the hallway and confronted ABDI. ABDI grabbed a pocketknife from his waistband, opened the blade, and charged at FGA with the knife in his hand. FGA grabbed a chair to block ABDI from stabbing him. AMA and other residents held ABDI down and took the knife away from him. An officer viewed video from the home. Video showed FGA go outside and say to ABDI, “Hey bro, what you on though?” ABDI removed a black knife from the right side of his body.
FGA said, “Stab me, stab me, nigga.” ABDI is swung the knife in FGA’s direction. The video showed ABDI and AMA went outside and were speaking. ABDI made a swinging and stabbing motion toward FGA, and yelled while approaching him. Another staff member tried to get in between FGA and ABDI. ABDI followed FGA and AMA inside the house. Additional video showed ABDI followed FGA into the dining area of the home while holding a knife in his right hand and a metal sign in his left hand. FGA grabbed a chair and threw it at ABDI. ABDI hit FGA with the sign.
Multiple people grabbed ABDI and retrieved the knife from him. AH said that in video, ABDI told FGA, “I’ll tear your f****** throat out, nigga. I’ll tear your f****** throat out.” FGA did not want to speak with officers and said he did not remember what happened. FGA said he has lived at the residence for three months and ABDI has lived there for two weeks. FGA went to the door to put on his shoes. He saw ABDI with his fists up toward AMA who is FGA’s brother. FGA was mad and wanted to square up with ABDI. On scene, ABDI spoke to an officer.
He said he was upset because no one would take him to the tobacco shop and Aldi. He said he had waited for hours before police arrived. He became upset and yelled at the staff about not being able to go. ABDI denied pulling a knife and denied threatening anyone. The knife that ABDI used was recovered by an officer. AH said none of the residents wanted to press charges.
