On March 14, 2026, around 3:01 PM, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an inmate assault on a detention deputy occurring at 2:17 PM that same afternoon in the Anoka County Jail, City of Anoka, County of Anoka. Upon arrival, deputies were informed that Detention Deputy Pace was assaulted by an inmate identified as Jeffrey Albert Tiyemiebi Ekiyor [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. Surveillance video showed Deputy Pace making his rounds in Defendant’s unit as Defendant is pacing near his open cell door.
Deputy Pace keys open the door to Defendant’s unit and Defendant walks into his cell. As Deputy Pace turns around to shut the door, Defendant runs towards him. Deputy Pace shuts the door and Defendant punches him several times in the face with a closed right fist. Deputy Pace blocks the next few punches and after resisting Defendant for a period of time, Deputy Pace is able to bring Defendant to the ground, while other detention staff help restrain Defendant. Deputy Pace reports bruising and swelling to his left jaw and required medical attention.
