On April 21, 2026, New Hope Officers were dispatched to a female slumped over behind the wheel at Holiday, [address omitted]., New Hope, Hennepin County. Upon arrival, officers observed the driver, later identified as ABIGAIL SYDNEY WEITZ, [DOB redacted], hereinafter "Defendant," with her head down and resting towards the center counsel area of the vehicle. The vehicle was a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with no front license plate. Officers approached the Defendant on the driver's side and knocked on the window several times.
The Defendant did not wake up, and they observed drug paraphernalia in the center counsel in the form of glass pipes with burnt residue. The officers shook the vehicle and the Defendant woke up. She was told to open the door, and she did not comply. She looked at the officers, and they observed her to have bloodshot eyes, constricted pupils, and droopy eyelids. Based on training and experience as a drug recognition evaluator, the officer believed she was impaired by an unknown drug. They saw the Defendant's right hand reach down to the shifter.
They told her not to drive. She shifted the vehicle into reverse and backed up slightly. She then shifted into drive and began to drive forward towards the squad car and made contact. There was minor front-end damage to the front of squad caused by the suspect when she began to flee. The vehicle then went around the squad and fled east bound on Bass Lake Rd. Officers began to pursue the vehicle. The squad's flashing emergency lights and siren were activated during the pursuit. The vehicle continued south bound on West Broadway and reached a top speed of approximately 88 miles per hour.
Robbinsdale officers attempted to put out stop sticks at 47th Ave N / West Broadway. She continued to speed and the pursuit was terminated for public safety. The Defendant was identified later via matching previous booking photo and a driver's license photo. Investigators checked public records and statewide supervision records to confirmed Defendant's address. They went to this address and found the vehicle that matched the vehicle that fled from officers at Holiday. Investigators obtained a tracking order application for the vehicle and a search warrant for Defendant's apartment.
On April 27, 2026, officers located Defendant at her apartment, and she was taken into custody without incident and bought to the Hennepin County Jail where she remains in custody.
