On 3/17/26 at 2237 hours, Officers were dispatched to 5862 4th Street NE, Fridley, Anoka County, Minnesota on reports of a shooting that had just occurred. Prior to arrival, Officers were advised that there was more than one caller that reported hearing shots in the area and that the shots sounded “rapid.” Bystanders believed they heard a vehicle driving away after the shots. Upon arrival to the area, another caller Tiarri Thomas, reported that her son, Victim had been short and left in a 2013 Dodge Caravan.
Officers spoke to Ms. Thomas who indicated she was tracking her son’s location on a phone application, and he was in the area of 252 and 70th Avenue in Brooklyn Park. Officers responded to that location and located Victim. Upon speaking to Victim, [NAME REDACTED] had not been shot but was shot at while in his vehicle multiple times. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been live streaming on Facebook after returning home from dropping his girlfriend off in Coon Rapids. When he arrived at his home, while still live streaming he went inside then back out to his vehicle.
He began backing down the driveway and he observed a white Jeep parked next to his driveway. He looked in the Jeep and saw a male exit the vehicle. Victim recognized the male as “Darion”, later identified as Darien Leray Mansell, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Victim [NAME REDACTED] has known Defendant for many years. Victim borrowed $100 from Defendant about 4 months prior to get diapers for his child. Victim saw a Glock 17 handgun, with a distinct silver slide, light attachment and laser attachment on it in Defendant’s hand.
Victim had seen Defendant with that same gun in the past. Defendant approached the vehicle on the passenger side and tapped the gun on the window and demanded the $100 from Victim. At this point Victim, [NAME REDACTED], accelerated away from Defendant. As Victim [NAME REDACTED], he heard several gunshots and what he believed to be bullets striking the vehicle. As Victim [NAME REDACTED], Defendant continued to shoot rounds into his vehicle while chasing it. Victim [NAME REDACTED] on Facebook. Officers were able to view the Facebook video and it matched what Victim reported.
Officers were able to hear the gunfire in the background and what appeared to be the sound of bullets striking the vehicle. Five casings were located just north of the Fridley address, and there were at least four bullet holes located on the rear and passenger side of the vehicle.
