On or about May 7, 2026, officers responded to a possible assault call at the Blake School on Kenwood Parkway in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. One reporting party stated they saw two men kneeling on a suspect. The reporting party said the suspect was in the parking lot of the school and attempted to assault staff and students. A second reporting party said they heard several people yelling outside and saw a crowd, and they believed the situation was escalating. A third reporting party mentioned the suspect potentially had a knife.
Officers arrived on scene and saw several people who appeared to be associated with the school wearing yellow traffic vests and waving their arms and pointing. Officers observed a few men in plainclothes holding down a suspect. The suspect was identified as ABDULLAHI, GULED MAHAMUD (“Defendant” herein). Multiple people on scene told officers that Defendant had assaulted and bitten staff, and at least one person told officers that Defendant had a knife in his pocket. Officers detained and searched Defendant.
Officers recovered a knife from Defendant’s front pants pocket. Officers spoke with school security staff members. One security staff member, M. G. (“Victim 1” herein) told officers that another staff member had reported to him that Defendant had been trespassing on school property and looking into vehicles in the school’s parking lot. Security confronted Defendant, and Defendant became immediately confrontational, yelling about “it being a free county” and giving the middle finger to students at the school.
Victim 1 said security tried to escort Defendant off of the property, and Defendant “got into a fighting stance.” Victim 1 said Defendant brandished a knife from his front right pocket and threatened to harm security staff by cutting them with the knife. Victim 1 said the situation continued to escalate and two staff members, M. J. And A. B. (“Victim 2” herein), intervened and tackled Defendant. M. J. And Victim 2 held Defendant down until officers arrived on scene. Victim 1 reported that, during the altercation, Defendant spat at Victim 1, and Defendant’s saliva landed in Victim 1’s eyes and mouth.
Victim 2 reported to officers that Defendant bit him, causing the skin on Victim 2’s hands to break and bleed. Defendant was convicted of the following previous qualified domestic violence-related offense within the last three years: ••-CR-••-••••: convicted of gross-misdemeanor fifth-degree assault on or about May 17, 2024. The State requests a warrant issue to ensure Defendant’s appearance in court. Defendant is in custody in the Hennepin County jail on an unrelated matter.
