On or about January 29, 2026, Jonathan Wayne Palodichuk [DOB REDACTED] (Defendant) entered Costco, [ADDRESS REDACTED], Woodbury, Washington County, Minnesota. After selecting some merchandise including a mattress, Defendant heads to the self checkout. Defendant scans the merchandise with the exception of the mattress, valued at $1299.99. Defendant then headed towards the exit where a sales associate checked his receipt. When the associate pointed out that Defendant had failed to purchase the mattress Defendant stated "He brought it in for an exchange." The associate then radio'd customer service to tell them Defendant was coming with a mattress.
The Defendant then went to the customer service desk near the exit, stopping to chat with a tire associate salesman for a short time, before exiting the store with the mattress. Defendant made no attempt to pay for or return the mattress at customer service. Defendant then loaded the mattress into a GMC pickup which surveillance showed a partial plate of N165. Officers were able to determine the license plate was RVN165, by conducting a DVS search of vehicles registered to [ADDRESS REDACTED], the address listed on Defendant's driver's license.
Costco General Manager J. I. Reached out to Defendant in an attempt to resolve the situation. Defendant denied being at Costco on the date in question, despite being confronted with the surveillance footage, and despite the fact access to Costco requires membership. When Det. Olson of the Woodbury police went to th 2615 Oak Ridge Address, he spoke with Defendant's father who positively identified Defendant as the individual in Costco's surveillance footage. Defendant attempted to provide a receipt to Detective Olson, however Costco verified they did not have a receipt with that order number and provided Det.
Olson with the inventory list of Defendant's year to date purchases through Costco, which shockingly did not include the mattress.
