On June 11, 2026, around 7:14 A.M., Brooklyn Center Police responded to call made by Lassana Barduway, [DOB redacted], “Defendant” herein, who asked for officers to come to a gas station in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Police arrived and were flagged down by Defendant, who was coming in and out of the driver’s seat of his car. Police spoke with Defendant. Police noticed that Defendant’s eyes were glossy and he was speaking with very rapid speech, jumping from topic to topic. Officers also observed an ignition interlock system sitting on the passenger seat of Defendant’s car.
Defendant had an ignition interlock restriction on his license. Officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside Defendant’s car, as the driver window was rolled down. Defendant reported that he had driven to the gas station. Defendant participated in field sobriety testing which indicated impairment of a central nervous system stimulant. Defendant provided a breath sample on a preliminary breath test for alcohol and the results were.000. Defendant was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
Officers searched Defendant’s car and found a black container with marijuana, that was not properly packaged, and two clear plastic straws, one of which appeared burnt and had a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and MDMA. Defendant was taken to the hospital. Officers obtained a signed search warrant to collect a sample of Defendant’s blood for chemical testing. Defendant was presented with the search warrant and informed that refusal to submit to the blood draw was a crime.
Defendant initially indicated that he was willing to cooperate, but whenever the nurse attempted to draw blood, Defendant would move erratically and not allow the nurse to draw blood. Defendant’s behavior continued to prevent hospital staff from drawing blood. Officers later obtained video from the area which showed Defendant’s car hitting the camera at Bass Lake Road / Shingle Creek Parkway, about six minutes prior to Defendant calling the police. During transport, Defendant yelled and shouted at the officers.
He kicked the partition and window of the squad, damaging the partition. Defendant also broke and damaged a seatbelt buckle. Defendant has a prior felony driving while impaired test refusal conviction in court file ••-CR-••-••••, convicted on 3/31/2025. Defendant is currently in custody.
