On August 26, 2025, Hopkins police responded to 5XX Cambridge Apartments in Hopkins, Hennepin County, on a sexual assault report. Upon arrival, officers spoke with D. M., herein Victim, who stated Armell Armond Pate, born on [DOB REDACTED], herein DEFENDANT, just sexually assaulted her. Victim stated she and DEFENDANT were childhood friends and had been in the same friend group for years but never been in a relationship. Within the last week, DEFENDANT had been attempting to see Victim. DEFENDANT came over to Victim’s apartment in the early hours of August 26, 2025, around 1:00AM. DEFENDANT and Victim [NAME REDACTED] in her bedroom because Victim’s children were sleeping in their rooms.
Victim stated she and DEFENDANT were speaking for 1 -2 hours with no issue. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was getting tired. It was around this time DEFENDANT began touching Victim. Victim [NAME REDACTED] on FaceTime with one of her friends, C. B., during this initial interaction. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to sleep, and DEFENDANT needed to get an Uber home. DEFENDANT told Victim as soon as she got off the phone with C. B. Then he would leave. DEFENDANT began reaching into Victim’s pants and underneath her underwear and inserted two fingers in her anus.
Victim [NAME REDACTED], “No, stop” and attempted to pull her underwear back but DEFENDANT continued. Victim texted C. B. That she felt violated and that DEFENDANT wouldn’t stop. DEFENDANT then moved his hand around her hips, inside of her underwear and inserted his fingers in her vagina. DEFENDANT began moving his fingers vigorously in her vagina causing Victim pain. Victim said, “that hurt, that don’t feel good.” Victim got off the phone with C. B. And turned onto her back – attempting to push DEFENDANT away from her.
DEFENDANT stated, “We grown, we can have sex,” to which Victim responded, “I just don’t want to.” DEFENDANT kept forcing himself on her and they began to “tussle.” Victim [NAME REDACTED], “No I’m not trying to.” Victim [NAME REDACTED] was physically overpowering her attempt to get DEFENDANT off. Victim kept trying to push DEFENDANT away and remove his hand. DEFENDANT then stood up and sat up on the bed and took his penis out. Victim stated that DEFENDANT used both of his hands to push Victim down onto her shoulders and pinned her hands above her head preventing her from using them.
DEFENDANT didn’t stop and instead removed Victim’s underwear and began penetrating her vagina with his penis. Victim repeatedly told DEFENDANT to stop. DEFENDANT eventually took his penis out, removed Victim’s underwear, but then reinserted his penis and continued to assault Victim. Victim had to stop fighting because she was concerned about her children sleeping in the other room. Victim stated she “shut down” during the assault due to experiencing domestic violence in the past. While speaking with officers, Victim became distraught and began to cry.
