On or about February 4, 2026, at approximately 12:30 A.M., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on the 4900 block of 77th Street West in Edina, Hennepin County, Minnesota, for a report of a disturbance. The reporting party said he lived in the complex, and he had ongoing issues with a male in a neighboring unit. The reporting party stated the male was banging on his door, yelling racial slurs, and making threats. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with A. A. (“Victim” herein). Victim [NAME REDACTED] had an ongoing dispute with a male neighbor named “Mike,” later identified as MICHAEL JOSEPH DUFFY, [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant” herein). Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the unit directly below Victim’s unit.
Victim told officers that he resides in his unit with his wife. Victim reported he heard approximately 5 loud “bangs” on his floor, which led him to believe someone from the unit below his was hitting their ceiling. Victim reported he then heard knocking on his unit’s door and Defendant’s voice yelling racial slurs and cuss words through the door. Victim [NAME REDACTED], “Come out here, I’m going to shoot you.” Victim [NAME REDACTED] was scared and was unsure if Defendant was armed with a firearm or not.
Victim waited a few minutes, and when things were quiet, he opened his door. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the hallway. Victim [NAME REDACTED] into a verbal argument, which Victim [NAME REDACTED]. In the video, Defendant’s face can be seen. Defendant is wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and dark gray sweatpants. Multiple witnesses who also live in the apartment complex, including Victim’s wife, gave statements to police that confirmed Victim’s account of events. Multiple witnesses reported hearing Defendant say, “I’m going to shoot you.” Officers went to Defendant’s unit and arrested Defendant, who was wearing a long-sleeved red shirt and gray sweatpants.
Defendant admitted to officers that he knocked on Victim’s unit door, but Defendant claimed he was just telling the resident to be quiet, and he did not make any threats. Officers transported Defendant to the Edina Police Department. There, Defendant stated he met Victim for the first time around the time when Victim [NAME REDACTED], after Defendant knocked on Victim’s door and told Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant said Victim “pointed his Somali finger at me and said, ‘shut the f**k up.’” Defendant told officers he had ongoing issues with Victim and the other resident of Victim’s unit since then, and he reported these issues to building management.
Defendant told officers that he believes Victim [NAME REDACTED] investigated for fraud because Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the parking lot, some of them with out-of-state license plates. Defendant also told officers that he believes the “Somalis are teaming up against” him because of his ongoing dispute with Victim. Officers transported Defendant to the Hennepin County Jail. Defendant remains in custody.
