All of the conduct described herein occurred within the County of St. Louis, State of Minnesota, unless otherwise noted. On October 7, 2024, at approximately 11:39PM, Duluth Police Officer Morin responded to an unknown trouble call at 317 N 3rd Ave W, Duluth, St. Louis County, MN. Duluth officers were investigating a threats call near the Damiano Center from MYRA LARAE SLIDES OFF, who called to report a male, possibly by the name of GEORGE ROBERT LAPRAIRIE [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter referred to as the Defendant, had been hiding in the bushes with an apparent firearm.
This call was under ICR: 24149065. The second 911 call came from NAAZHE FREEMAN-SUTTEN in the area of 319 N. 3rd Avenue W. Freeman- Sutten had pressed the panic alarm on her phone. The officers responded to the area of 319 N 3rd Ave W. The officers heard what they believed to be a female crying coming from a house located at 317 N 3rd Ave W. While investigating the area, Officer Morin observed two females walking in the backyard. Officer Morin shined his flashlight towards the women and believed to have seen one of the females holding a firearm.
Officer Morin yelled out, “Duluth Police,” but the females quickly retreated back into the home and officers set up a perimeter around the residence. Additional information was relayed to the officers that there were potentially two children inside the residence. The two females exited the residence and were detained. The females were identified as MYRA LARAE SLIDES OFF and NAAZHE FREEMAN-SUTTEN. The officers performed a safety sweep of the residence. Information was relayed to the officers that Slides Off’s mother-in-law was still in the home.
Officers gave loud verbal commands for any other occupants to come to the back door with their hands up. Officers entered the rear entrance of the home of 317 N 3rd Ave W. The officers gave several loud commands to the potential occupants upstairs. They made contact with ANGELIQUE THERESA LAPRAIRIE. Angelique LaPrairie was removed from the upstairs and identified as the Defendant’s mother. Officer Morin spoke to Angelique LaPrairie who said she was sleeping and did not know why the police were there.
Officer Vanbuskirk spoke with Freeman-Sutten about what had occurred. Freeman-Sutten said that the Defendant had been at the residence and got into a disagreement with Myra Slides Off. The Defendant was the father of Slides Off children. The Defendant would often stay at the house multiple times a week. Freeman- Sutten stated that the Defendant had told Angelique LaPrairie to get his gun and the Defendant left on foot. She stated that Angelique had placed the firearm outside the residence after the Defendant left and that Freeman- Sutten grabbed the firearm, went back into the residence, and placed it underneath an air mattress.
